WHAT WE BELIEVE

At Christ Church, we are a historically Christian, gospel-centered, reformed church. In that order. This means that first and foremost, we are a church who embraces the historic Christian faith, found in the pages of the Old and New Testaments, and summarized by the Apostles and Nicene Creeds. Secondly, we are focused on seeing the good news of Jesus’ rescue, redemption and transformation of sinners like us integrated into every part of our lives. Finally, we are a reformed (or Presbyterian) church. Our beliefs grow from the soil of the sixteenth century Protestant Reformation which affirmed the tenets: Scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone and to the glory of God alone.

Core Beliefs:

  • Bible. We believe the Bible is the written Word of God. Its teaching is completely trustworthy.  The Bible is our ultimate standard for what we believe and how we live.
  • God. We believe the one, true God exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are one in power and glory.  God is the creator and sustainer of all that exists, a world made for God’s glory and for our good.
  • Man. We believe men and women are created in the image of God with dignity to know and love God, while ruling over and caring for creation on God’s behalf. We are presently estranged from God for refusing to honor Him as creator and ruler and for trying to live independent of Him.
  • Jesus. We believe God the Son became man in the person Jesus Christ.  God the Son lived, died on the cross, and rose from the dead bodily, to redeem his people and to renew God’s creation. We can be redeemed through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and by grace alone (not by anything we have done). A transformed life is evidence of genuine faith in Jesus.
  • Spirit. We believe the Holy Spirit gives Christians the wisdom and power they need to experience God’s presence, to live according to God’s will, and to grow increasingly into the likeness of Jesus Christ.  Christians come together in local communities, or churches, to help each other live faithfully and joyfully as followers of Jesus.
  • Return. We believe Jesus will return to earth personally, visibly, and bodily to establish God’s perfect justice, and to complete God’s work of redemption and renewal.

We are a mission congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America who affirm the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms as a faithful expression of biblical teaching. Click here to read about our denomination beliefs.
